7 Tips to improve your content marketing
Content marketing is no longer a “nice to have” option - it is very much a requirement. It is no longer enough to just throw up a website and not touch it. In order to gain traffic, increase your rankings and improve your user experience, content marketing is a must. We take a look at 7 tips to improve your strategy, whether you’re at the very beginning or feeling the pinch!
1. Determine your content marketing objectives
Many of us get so excited at the prospect of creating content (yep, me), but unless you know where you’re going with it, it can often fall flat. Look at your objectives from the very beginning to set your journey to success - whatever that may be for you.
If you’re already well into your content marketing strategy and need a little help, revisit your initial goals and see what you can do to improve. Plus of course, check out the following tips too.
2. Look at what makes you unique
Every business has something unique about it. It’s time to showcase those values across your content. Let your customers/clients see who is behind the brand, what you do behind the scenes and how you make things happen.
Look at it this way. If you’re a fan of the iPhone (I mean, who isn’t?), have a look at Apple and what they stand for. Have a peek around their website and see what you pick up about the brand and why people buy into it - Now, what makes you unique? Whatever it is, use it!
3. Don’t forget to measure your marketing
How do you know what to measure if you don’t know what your goals are? If you’re out to raise awareness, measure it. If your aim is to generate leads, you need to measure your metrics accordingly.
There are four types of content marketing metrics to pay attention to:
Consumption metrics
Sharing metrics
Lead metrics
Sales metrics
4. Always be consistent and professional
It might be tempting to just chuck out a blog for the sake of filling a spot, but it can often do more harm than good. With so much content constantly being produced, you need to stand out and be able to compete. In line with this, it’s so important that you only publish the best content possible.
It’s always better to have one great post each week, rather than five kinda “meh” ones.
5. Repurpose your content
Take a look over your recent blog posts - could they serve your audience in another way? If you’re offering readers something valuable (well, duh!), why not consider repurposing your content into a downloadable guide? These can work wonders as a lead magnet, allowing you to capture email addresses for your email newsletters.
Other ways to repurpose your content?
Take your Instagram posts and elaborate further for blog content. Share this onto LinkedIn or Facebook for extra reach.
Consider switching up those blog posts into email blasts or even a live webinar. If you’re teaching your audience something they love, they’re going to pay attention.
6. Don’t be afraid to get keyword specific
Ahhh, SEO. I love it, but many hate it. The thought of publishing content can seem daunting enough, let alone having to think about keywords and optimisation. Scary, right? It doesn’t have to be.
Before you get started on your next blog post, sit down and make a note of relevant keywords or phrases you may use to search for this type of content online.
Pssst… We covered keyword research recently and how important it is for your content marketing strategy. Take a peek.
7. Look at your competitors
Not quite where you want to be… Yet? Don’t worry! Conduct a competitor analysis and take a look at what they’re doing and how you can outsmart them.
Tools such as Semrush are great for tracking your competitors, helping you determine what they’re ranking for and how you can compete.
